Professor Patrick Sturgis and Dame Dianne Thompson joined the esteemed group at the MRS Excellence Awards on 9 June.
Patrick Sturgis is Professor of Research Methodology in the Department of Social Statistics & Demography at the University of Southampton. His Honorary Fellowship recognises the dedication and commitment he showed whilst leading the BPC/MRS polling inquiry into the performance of opinion polls at the 2015 General Election.
Dame Dianne Thompson made an outstanding contribution to MRS as its President from 2012 to 2017. She spoke at a wide range of events and undertook media activities which raised the Society’s profile. Dianne introduced the MRS President’s Medal and instigated the Inclusivity agenda as part of the transition for the new President.
The pair join Bill Bryson OBE and the Rt Hon Dame Margaret Hodge MP, amongst others, who were created Honorary Fellows for the 70th anniversary of MRS in 2016 for championing the power of evidence in the creative, business and social sectors.
